"I said NO!"

Even if I didn't like it — or understand it — there is no denying that my mother loved me and was only looking out for me. Over time my experiences have taught me that God loves me and watches out for me in a similar fashion.

When I was a toddler, we were at someone else's house when my mom caught me getting curious about an electrical outlet. She told me kindly but firmly that the outlets could hurt me, and told me to leave them alone.

So I waited until she wasn't looking, then stuck my thumbnail into a socket.

Mom was right.

Not only was I hurt more than I realized I would be, but my thumbnail was black for awhile.

I learned two lessons that day.

First, I learned to not mess with electrical outlets.

Second, I learned to trust my mother's counsel.

Even if I didn't like it — or understand it — there is no denying that my mother loved me and was only looking out for me.

Over time my experiences have taught me that God loves me and watches out for me in a similar fashion.

Yes, there have been times when I've ignored God's counsel with seemingly no consequences, but there have been plenty of times when I've been burned too.

And that pain could have been avoided were it not for my own hubris.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes" (Proverbs 3:5-7).

Peace.
